Dr. Millikan served as Secretary of the Medical Staff of Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center from 1995 to 1998. From 1989 to 1995 he was Associate Director of Undergraduate Surgical Education, and in July 1995 he became Director of Undergraduate Surgical Education.

dr millikan He has published extensively in the areas of esophageal cancer, liver cancer, and stomach, gallbladder and pancreas carcinomas, and has reviewed the experience of Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center with these disease entities. He has been at the forefront of advanced laparoscopic procedures, and has performed laparoscopic anti-reflux procedures for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), laparoscopic inguinal hernia repairs, laparoscopic splenectomies, and laparoscopic colon resections.

Dr. Millikan is in private practice at University Surgeons, S.C. since 1991. His surgical interests involve the upper gastrointestinal tract, surgical oncology, and laparoscopic, or minimally invasive, surgical procedures.

He has taught numerous courses regarding basic and advanced laparoscopic surgery, and in 1995 took a surgical team to Santarem, Brazil to perform laparoscopic surgery in the Amazon and teach surgeons in Brazil the art of minimally invasive surgery.

Just recently, he was elected President of the Chicago. Minimally Invasive Surgical Society, which has just been formed in the Chicago metropolitan area. In addition to his laparoscopic and oncologic interests, Dr. Millikan is Co-Director of Nutrition Support Service at RPSLMC, a position he has held since July of 1990.

He has published numerous articles on the above subjects. A bibliography of his journal articles and book chapters are detailed (hypertext this). In addition to these academic endeavors, he was co-author of a book for surgical residents and students named Common Surgical Diseases which was published in 1998 by Springer Verlog of New York. He is presently involved in research for drugs to abate severe pancreatitis and oral chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer. These grants have been awarded to him from corporate America.
