Dr. Myers is an Assistant
Professor of Surgery and the Director of Undergraduate Surgical Education at
Rush Medical College. He received his fellowship training in Minimally
Invasive Surgery at Loyola University Medical Center and completed his
residency at Rush University Medical Center and Cook County Hospital.
He is a member of
the clinical team of the Coleman Foundation Comprehensive Clinic for Gastrointestinal Cancers and was credited with
developing the Minimally Invasive Training Center at Rush. He is the Director of the Rush Bariatric Surgery Program
and has introduced laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding to the Medical Center, which can be performed as an
outpatient procedure.
Dr. Myers has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals, book
chapters, and co-edited a surgical textbook. He serves on multiple committees
both within the medical center and in local and national surgical societies.
He has presented his research at national meetings, including the Society of
American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the American Society for
Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
His special interests include: Minimally Invasive Surgery, Surgery of the
Gastrointestinal Tract, Biliopancreatic Surgery, and Hernia repair.
Additionally, he performs laparoscopic surgery of the esophagus, stomach,
colon, spleen, adrenal gland, and pancreas among other new and innovative
minimally invasive procedures at Rush including Single Incision Laparoscopic
Surgery (SILS).
